ZCRS Spring Course: The Future of Creation
To live faith in today's world, we need to face today's problems. The Future of Creation, ZCRS's new spring course, begins from those convictions. The course will address the challenges that environmental degradation poses for the near future. It seeks to educate participants on basic ecological principles, specific environmental problems, and fundamental theological perspectives on human relationships with creation. ZCRS director Gayle Woloschak will co-lead the course with David Rhoads, a professor of New Testament at the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago and director of the Web of Creation project (www.webofcreation.org). The course will consist of a series of Tuesday-evening lectures. Scientists will lecture on ecological systems and ecological threats, and will explain how human action contributes to environmental degradation. Biblical scholars and theologians will discuss how religious traditions inform how we think about our responsibilities to creation and how they might shape responses to environmental crisis. Community organizers will suggest strategies for community and parish-based action. All lectures are free and open to the public. Read about David Rhoads in Sojourners Magazine. Welcome to the website for the Zygon Center for Religion and Science. The Zygon Center is located at the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago (LSTC). It is dedicated to relating religious traditions and the best scientific knowledge in order to gain insight into the origins, nature, and destiny of humans and their environment. The purpose of the Center is to bring together scientists, theologians, and other scholars to discuss and carry out research on basic questions and issues of human concern. The Zygon Center sponsors three academic courses (offered through LSTC) each year: the Epic of Creation, the Future of Creation, and the Advanced Seminar in Religion and Science. ZCRS also sponsors conferences, symposia, and workshops throughout the year. An on-going project is the HIV/AIDS Workshop for Medical and Religious Professionals. Information about these events and courses can be found on the website. We hope you find this site informative and helpful. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions or comments concerning the Center.
